Container Feed Turntables are the most economical in terms of cost of the various container feeding systems. Turntable designs vary based on container type, speed, and application-specific requirements. The general concept is quite simple and very similar across a broad spectrum of applications.
The typical container feed table consists of a frame with a variable speed rotating disc. Frame construction can vary greatly depending on the application. The discs can vary in diameter from 24" to as large as 72" and may be constructed of aluminum, steel, stainless steel, or reinforced low friction polypropylene.
An outer guide rail system keeps bulk upright containers on the rotating disc itself, as an overhead sorting assembly gradually directs the bulk upright bottles towards the outer rail. Containers that are "riding the outer rail" are stripped onto the conveyor as needed. If a backlog occurs on the conveyor, bottles are deflected gradually back towards the middle of the disc. This insures uniform, nominal and unobstructed passage of containers to the conveying system.
Operators place containers on the table randomly in an upright position and the feed turntable places the containers onto a conveyor automatically, usually at an adjustable rate. Almost any relatively stabile container can be fed to a packaging system in this manner: Plastic Bottles, Glass Bottles, Glass Jars, Plastic Jars, Metal Cans, Metal Bottles, Glass Ampoules, round and non-round.
Possible speeds on these types of systems vary from as low as 10 containers per minute in excess of 150 containers per minute in some pharmaceutical applications utilizing small ampoules. Speed that can be obtained is dependant upon the container specifications, size of the container feed table, method of placing the containers on the table, and number of individuals doing so.
If container spacing is a requirement for any reason, a variable speed metering wheel or dual variable speed metering wheels may be employed to provide this spacing. For more demanding applications where spacing is critical, a variable speed feed screw may be utilized.
At any given time, BPDM typically has a variety of container feed turntables in our used, rebuilt and/or reconditioned inventory. We can also furnish new equipment or produce a system incorporating custom design features. Please contact us with your requirements if you would like to discuss your applications.
